In collaboration with Watercourse Counseling Center and with the financial support of Headwaters Foundation for Justice & the Bush Foundation, we are excited to announce TRIA: Our Stories Our Lives.
TRIA: Our Stories Our Lives is a new, no-cost adoptee-led therapy group for adults that will offer the power of community and collective process to help discover, unfold, reclaim and retell our stories. Holding the philosophy of “for us, by us,” our goal is to provide therapeutic space that allows participants to connect with others, expand their emotional health, and receive guidance toward growth and integration of their experiences.
Minnesota is home to one of the highest concentrations of Transracial International Adoptees (TRIAs). Our experiences are unique but carry a common thread through the separation from our first families and original culture. Being raised in the Midwest, often by White families, our identities and lived experiences are complex. As we uncover the layers of our lives, we can reveal and understand our whole selves.
The group will be led by TRIA therapists Julie Jong Koch, MSW, LICSW and Jessica Shultz, MA.
When: Weekly on Wednesdays 6-8pm, for a 12-week period from March 29th through June 14th.
Where: Watercourse Counseling Center South Clinic 3548 Bryant Ave S, Minneapolis
Enrollment is limited to 10 participants, and attendance at all 12 sessions is required. Snacks, refreshments, and all materials provided.
If interested in the group or for more information, contact Julie at: VM: 612.767.8663 / Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Watercourse Counseling Center TRIA: Our Stories Our Lives program is a proud recipient of the Headwaters Foundation Community Innovation Grant, a partnership between Headwaters Foundation and the Bush Foundation. This grant supports communities to use problem solving processes that lead to more effective, equitable, and sustainable solutions. It allows communities to increase collective understanding of an issue, generate ideas, and/or test and implement solutions.

We are looking for a Licensed Psychologist to provide supervision for Doctoral students in PsyD and PhD programs. We have a strong team of supervising therapists who are licensed as LPCC’s, LICSW’s and LMFT’s. Candidates should have experience with adults, children and families; should understand the influence of culture on the process of therapy and have experience working with diverse communities, and should have interest in integrative, community-orientated approaches. After 15 years at our South Minneapolis location, Watercourse is undergoing a building expansion that will double clinical space, making mental health services more accessible. We will also be redoing our landscaping, and creating community space in the form of an engraved brick patio and garden.
Watercourse friends, staff, neighbors, donors, and curious community members are welcome to come and get an update, take a closer look at the details, and learn more about the brick campaign that’s supporting our makeover.
This event is open to the public, but RSVP to email@example.com at least one day prior to the event to ensure we have enough refreshments for everyone.
In case you missed it, we’ve got a big renovation project in the works. By adding space to our South Clinic, and remodeling existing space, we’ll be able to serve even more clients and to offer new services like groups. Exciting, right? But that’s not all.
Our renovation plan includes three phases:
- A new addition, featuring a wheelchair-accessible bathroom and therapy room, a large room for groups and community events, and a great new lobby
- Beautification, including a green roof on the new addition (seriously, how cool is that!?), a relaxing community patio, and new landscaping
- Re-modeling of the main floor in the old building, including a new play therapy room
Clearing space for the new addition will begin soon, and we plan to finish the project before programs gear up in the fall.
Keep in touch! Over the next few months, we’ll share day-to-day progress on our Facebook page, Instagram (@watercoursecounseling), and Twitter (@WatercourseMN).
If you attended our 2015 brunch, you may remember seeing some architectural drawings propped up along the wall. After months of community meetings, zoning meetings, staff meetings… well, you’re getting the idea. Anyhow, we’re finally able to say with confidence that we are expanding our South Clinic.
Over the next few months, we’ll share day-to-day progress on our Facebook page, Instagram (@watercoursecounseling), and Twitter (@WatercourseMN). For now, we’ll leave you with a taste of the changes to come.
